This guide was produced to overcome two key barriers to students choosing physics as a study option and to promote the benefits of studying physics in an interesting and innovative way.  The guidance outlined in this document should allow physics departments to reach a less traditional cohort by developing effective strategies of marketing physics through prospectuses, outreach material and online content.

Research commissioned by the IOP identified that a lot of material used by universities to promote physics courses was unattractive to many potential students and that there was a perception that the range of physics career opportunities available were limited outside of teaching and research.
