Guide 8. Optimising the part-time experience.
This sub-theme will cover students in any part-time mode of study: issues of transition, induction, and (especially) retention that relate to the part-time experience; and also the role that part-time students in the workforce can play (by providing insights into professional life) in enhancing retention among part-time students.
The outcome will be a contribution to a best practice guide for academics, presenting collected good practice models relating to issues of transition, induction, and retention for part-time students, and the role that part-time students in the workforce can play in enhancing retention among full-time students, achieving the objectives listed above.
This will cover issues such as
- delivery design and flexibility
- timetable and course management that is responsive to the needs of part-time students
- use of Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs)
- communication with teaching staff and fellow students
- employer support
