Industrial Advisory Boards Workshop
Examples of best practice, guidance and expertise relating to Industrial Advisory Boards were available to a day-long meeting held at the IoP on Valentine’s Day.
Dr. Pargat Singh Calay showcases his IAB work at London Metropolitan University.
An Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) brings senior personnel from industry into a university department in order to facilitate discussion on topics of mutual interest. IAB’s formalize links between industry and the university at department or faculty level, allowing academics to get an outside view on a wide range of university teaching and research activities.
Participants from chemistry, maths, and physics departments that are about to launch IABs were invited to gaining an insight into what is involved in getting these initiatives off the ground, how to ensure they are effective and other useful tips.
On the day, custodians from the University of Sheffield, London Metropolitan University and University of Salford presented their personal experiences and insights into setting up their own Boards at their respective institutions. The afternoon workshops then allowed a more subject focused guidance session, allowing the adopters to ask personalised questions and organize a clear action plan of how to start to set up the Board in their institutions.
This workshop was filmed to further disseminate this information to non-attendees, and the video will be available via DVD and for viewing on the professional body and the HE STEM websites in mid March.
